Hi, I’m ZEWJ! I’m a Colorado artist who works primarily in ceramics, though I also dabble in costuming/fashion, painting, puppets, and mask-making. I studied at the University of Northern Colorado, earning a minor in Studio Arts: Ceramics. I was incredibly lucky to be given the chance to experiment with a variety of kilns and glaze firings (including crystal and soda), gain experience in glaze creation, and try my hand at large sculptural work. I now produce work in a small home studio and am excited to be making steps toward showing and selling my work professionally.

Currently, I’m exploring the idea of faces and body parts integrated into functional, everyday pottery. I start with wheel-thrown forms and sculpt attachments, carve faces, and stretch them into more organic, human shapes. The idea of intentional interaction and role of the audience/user is always present in my mind while working, and informs many of my decisions regarding choices to do with styles and function. A big fan of the uncanny, I’m inspired by cryptid-esque characters, the unnatural, and body horror. I enjoy mixing these more negative elements with what some would call “immature humor” to create amusing, comedic, and often slightly uncomfortable pieces.
